prime crime

over the past few years, i’ve been asked why i stopped posting on “a girl on top” and every time someone asked a ting of regret passed thru me. for those of you who haven’t had your own blog before, a blog really does have a life of it’s own. it’s this great, albeit time-consuming, thing that once you have a taste, you just want more. A too much of a good thing isn’t bad though, right?

well, when i decided to focus on my film career, i could not maintain G.O.T. to the extent i had wished to. since 2011, i’ve had incredible experiences working at strong and successful production companies and on fabulous films such as Celeste and Jesse Forever and, the currently in theaters,  The To Do List, but I cannot deny that i’ve missed being Miss G.O.T.

so, that question of “why i stopped” is something i’ve recently thought long and hard about. and you know what? i don’t have a good enough answer to it to keep the lights off here at G.O.T. i loved bringing you new and exciting products to add to your vanity and i want to fill that void I know you’ve been missing!

if you’ll have me, i hope you’ll join me once again for the fun we used to have!

to lure you back in, i decided my first post back had to be my favorite new vanity addition. a dear friend’s younger sis introduced me to a line called LIME CRIME not too long ago and the staying-power of this amazing lipstick truly is a crime.

i’m currently loving the RED VELVET VELVETINE.

it goes on glossy, finishes matte and i dare you to try to get it off your lips. go ahead, take a sip of that drink. perhaps even kiss that boy.

i was at a pool party recently, sipping on a frozen lemonade, cooling-off in the pool and my red lips did not stray.

i stayed perfectly poised for the entire day with fabulously matte and never-retouched lips. all a girl really needs is a good mascara, rosy cheeks and a great red lipstick…and ladies, i’ve found my little black dress of red lipsticks.

here’s a peek…and yes, that’s me…in the pool…being fabulous:

where do i find it?

It Just Rolls Off the Tongue So Nicely…

Hello hello! I know how much you’ve missed me and girls have I missed you!

As a special treat for being oh so patient with my absence, I want to introduce you to a new BEAUTY LINE today. Girls meet Alessandra. Alessandra meet my girls.

I recently learned about Alessandra from one of my lovely Girls on Top, Allison, and she so graciously provided me with several samples of Alessandra products. Today, I’m going to praise the lip gloss (you will be hearing more about Alessandra in the future, don’t you worry).

I’ve been using the color “Cassandra” for the last few days and, girls, I’m really liking it! It’s natural shade of pink that gives me just the perfect amount of color for my day.

Tip of the Day: If you’re going bold with your eyes (day or night), tone down your lips. Cassandra is a great gloss to balance sultry eyes.

All Alessandra products are mineral products that are filled with nutrients to help your skin, not hurt it. Your very own Girl on Top gives mineral products two big thumbs up (I’ve told you this before…).

Below I have provided you with the link to the Alessandra website. Based in Chicago, you can visit Exhale Spa to have your eyebrows done by Alessandra herself.

Check out the “About Alessandra” as well as the “Mineral Makeup” tabs. I’m really digging her motto on beauty — “enhance, not mask.” Sounds a lot like someone I know…

Who is Rosebud?

The best kept secret in cine…ok we aren’t going there. Anyway, ta da!! I’m back…and with the multi-purpose cure-all lip balm. I kid you not, Rosebud Salve Lip Balm can be used for alllllll of your dry-ness woes.

Want the list? Well you’re going to get it…

1. Heals Dry Lips

2. Heals Chapped Lips

3. Soothes Irritated Lips

4. Conditions Dry Elbows

5. Conditions Dry Knees

6. Heals Diaper Rash (who knows, maybe some of you can use it?)

7. Soothes Burns

Rosebud Salve has a lot of the same properties as Vaseline — I will help with a lot of the same issues. BUT Rosebud carries a pleasant scent and a slightly pinkish tint for those of you who want a glow for your lips.

I LOVE this lip balm — and how awesome is the tin container?

Looking for something small to add to a gift? Rosebud Salve makes a great addition!

So Great, but Just a Little Sticky

I don’t know about you, but every time  I hear the name Bobby Brown, I think of Whitney Houston’s ex-husband…and that’s not a pretty sight. Especially after their reality show. Ugh, I just gave myself chills.

Today I won’t be telling you about one of “Bobby’s” crazy charades around Atlanta, but rather about the revered makeup queen Bobbi Brown and her Shimmer Lip Tint with SPF 15.

Now this BB lip gloss has a lot of things going for it:

A). There are a lot of shades — I particularly love the Nude.

B). It has SPF 15.

C). It gives a great shine.

D). Easy application.

E). Long lasting.

However, no holds barred, this lip gloss can feel a bit sticky. Regardless, I’ve used this stuff for years and still enjoy its pros (I just deal with its con). If you’re looking for a good nude gloss, this is a good option, though I’ll keep hunting for the perfect product because I love my Girl on Top readers that much 😉

Gotta Have That Tingling Sensation…

I have used Carmex since the day the Earth was created. OK, I’m not that old, but it’s been a loooooooooooooong time! Back when I was little, with overly chapped lips (and I mean the kind when you keep licking your lips because they hurt and then all the skin around your lips turns red), my mother soothed my parched lips with Carmex.

I would scream and cry saying that it hurt and it stung and the whole shebang, but she would tell me that just meant it was working.

Well, now, 15 years later, I’m still using the darn stuff.  Even as I write this very post, I’m applying it to my lips. Today, I think of that tingling sensation as the Carmex working — whether that’s true or not, I’m unsure. All I know is that it makes my lips healthy and happy.

Carmex definitely requires certain taste, though. The original scent is strong and they way it feels on is a bit interesting, but once you like it, you love it. I do!

It goes on soft, isn’t sticky, you feel it doing its job and it does exactly what it says it’s going to — soothe, heal, protect. After just one day’s use, my chapped and/or cracked lips feel smoother. And for even more protection, Carmex contains SPF 15.

*Carmex can be found at any drugstore including Target, Walgreens, CVS and Wal-Mart. You can buy a single tube for $1+change or multi-packs.

*For all you snow bunnies out there, Carmex is great for winter wind protection!

Color Yourself Red

As my hunt for the perfect red lipstick ends, Laura Mercier gets another shout out from this Girl on Top. Beautiful girls meet LM Truly Red.

Truly Red is a wonderfully soft, smooth, simple, and soothing lipstick (you might need to go over your lips a few times to make it perfectly even…a lipstick brush helps, too).

This lipstick really makes you *POP.* I promise you, you will turn a few heads.

To add a little shine, put a clear or natural gloss on top.

Red lipstick beauty tip: Remember to do a more natural eye if you’re going to sport this vibrant lip color.

Pretty in Pink

OOOOOOOOOO-Glow. You heard me. O-Glow (and Gloss). This Smashbox product is a sure-fire hit. This “intuitive” lip-gloss (and blush) utilizes the Goji Berry-C Complex that reacts with your body heat to create a specialized shade of pink just for you. It’s magic!

Several years ago I found O-Glow (the blush), which I believe was Smashbox’s first product of the sort. Soon after they came out with O-Gloss and I was hooked. I literally go through a tube of this lip gloss every month. I absolutely love it!

It’s soothing, isn’t sticky, and has a great shine. Check. Check. And check.

Beauty doesn’t come cheap though, Ladies. O-Gloss will cost you $22 at any Sephora store.
