delicate duty

we often forget to be delicate with our delicates. we wear them everyday, tear them off as soon as we get home and put them through the regular cycle with the rest of the wash. but why are we so cruel to the one item of clothing that truly matters so much?

my nana always said splurging on a good bra is the best spent money. a good bra can entirely alter the way your outfit looks and it undoubtedly makes you feel fabulous. isn’t that all the more reason to take care of these precious commodities?

my bras come from a fantastic store called “intimacy.” check it out online…it’s one of oprah’s favorites too! at intimacy you can get an up-close-and-personal bra fitting to find out your true size (spoiler: victoria’s real secret is that the bras aren’t sized right).

at intimacy, you will walk into a fitting room, be told to take-off your shirt and lean over…while the bra specialist is in the room with you. i first experienced this at the age of 14 and it was nothing less than traumatic. BUT i survived (clearly) and i promise the surely-to-make-you-blush fitting is well worth the incredible bras you’re bound to find!

once you’ve found your perfect fit, you have to be sure to pick up the delicates wash to treat your new purchase as it deserves to be treated.

once upon a time, i washed my bras with the rest of my intimates in the regular wash…that was until i discovered the “delicate fabric wash” at intimacy. one 8oz bottle can last for what seems a lifetime as you only need 1tbsp to create a sudsy soak in your sink. let your lady contraptions soak for 5 minutes, rinse and then air dry. the scent is a heavenly clean laundry fragrance and its special formula to extend the life of your lingerie will certainly make your wallet feel heavenly too.

       We all have those products we need to survive the day. Some of us need eyeliner in our purse, others perfume, but the product I won’t leave home without is my L’Occitane Hand Cream.

“They” say there are two ways to know a woman’s age: her hands and her neck. Well I say, defy expectations! You are as young as you feel (though you can help your skin to fake it a bit too). And what’s the key to soft, younger looking skin? Moisture!

The In-Between Stage

       Today is going to be a TMI day. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

So here goes. I’m a waxer. There I said it. My mother thinks I’m crazy and I’m sure my first-time-scream could have been heard 20 miles away, but I’ve learned to embrace the bikini wax.

Five minutes of pain = six to eight weeks of heaven.

At the age of sixteen, I decided to torture myself by getting my first bikini wax. Since then, I’ve moved on to the Brazilian waxes. They hurt just about the same amount as or less than the regular bikini. It’s a personal preference.  But whether you wax or shave, I know you’ve all experienced the same wax/shave issue as me.

The in-between. You know, the in-between stage when you have to wait to wax or shave again. Gosh, I hate that!

Well, lucky for us, Schick (among other companies) has come out with the razor/trimmer duo. You heard me. One side is a disposable razor, the other is a battery-operated bikini-line trimmer. And it works!

You can decide how short you want to trim (just adjust the trimmer cover — for a close trim, take the plastic cover off). It will not make you as smooth as a wax or a shave, but it’s a great alternative for the in-between.

Target has a deal on the Schick duo right now –$8.99 vs. the usual $10.99.

There is another product that I have yet to try, but will soon. It is the Bliss Bikini Trimmer. Chargeable and a bit more expensive, this product isn’t disposable and could be a wise alternative for those of you who will use this product often. You can also purchase the Bliss Trimmer at Target for $49.99.

Be Lemony Fresh

     Recently I remembered why store-bought deodorants don’t work on me. And boy, I won’t forget it this time! About a month and a half ago, I developed a terrible, itchy rash from my deodorant! Gross! I was so embarrassed by the incident that I didn’t wear sleeveless shirts for a few weeks (remember, I live in L.A.) Truthfully, it was probably an allergic reaction, but it wouldn’t go away!

When I explained what was happening to me to a friend, she told me about a new deodorant that her mother actually bought for her. She, too, has experienced the horrifying reactions to deodorant — as I know many of you have, but would never admit. And this alternative deodorant really worked for her. I, in-turn, bought it and here we are today with another glorious product.

L’Occitane Aromachologie Purifying Roll-On Deodorant. Utilizing lemon oils and eucalyptus, this roll-on deodorant keeps you fresh and purifies your skin while working it’s odor-fighting magic.

The scent is a subtle lemon, but not so much that you’d smell like a car freshener!

When I first found out it was a roll-on, I was skeptical. In the past, I’ve hated roll-ons. But this product itself changed my mind. It goes on smooth, is very light, and only takes a few minutes to dry.

Note: You really do need to give this product a few minutes to dry. It won’t leave a nasty white mark on your shirt, but it’s best if you let it air dry before putting on your clothes. I usually start to do my makeup while I wait for it to dry.
